
Peter is a commercial real estate and business attorney who advises developers, investors, and lenders on complex transactions and serves as outside general counsel to businesses. He brings a unique perspective shaped by his career as principal at a real estate development company, general counsel of a growth-stage technology company, and attorney at prominent transactional law firms in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Nashville.
Before returning to private practice, Peter co-founded a real estate development company, where he ran the development and construction of large-scale residential communities. His work reflects a strong command of the full development lifecycle, including site selection, acquisition, project design, equity raising, debt financing, construction, operations, and disposition. Peter’s experience includes the development of 1,703 multifamily units, 173 single-family homes, 112 single-family home lots, and 98 townhome units across seven projects representing more than $500 million in total development cost.
While launching the real estate company, Peter served as general counsel of a Software as a Service (SaaS) technology company. In that role, Peter headed the company’s legal functions, with responsibilities spanning corporate governance and board advisory, M&A and capital financings, commercial contracts, intellectual property management, data privacy and security compliance, regulatory compliance, litigation and dispute management, employment matters, and outside counsel relationships.
Before co-founding the development company, Peter practiced law as a real estate and finance attorney at Bass, Berry & Sims PLC in Nashville, TN. At Bass, he represented private developers and REITs in the acquisition, disposition, and financing of large-scale commercial real estate projects, including portfolio acquisitions, construction financings, and joint venture structurings.
Peter also practiced as a corporate finance attorney at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in Washington, D.C. and New York City. At Fried Frank, he advised private equity sponsors, investment banks, REITs, hedge funds, and other public and private companies on complex financing transactions, capital markets matters, and corporate governance.
Peter graduated with honors from the University of Georgia and earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law. While practicing law in D.C., Peter pursued graduate legal studies at Georgetown University Law Center. In 2008, Peter worked at a leading law firm in Johannesburg, South Africa, advising clients on the project financing of energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa.
Peter is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Washington, D.C. and is a member of the Nashville Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and NAIOP. He also is a member of Council Leadership, a leadership development consulting firm in Nashville, TN.
